SOULMUSIC RECORDS SPOTLIGHT: DIONNE WARWICK/DIONNE WARWICK & ISAAC HAYES
Two classic Arista albums by Dionne Warwick

DIONNE WARWICK: SINGS COLE PORTER/AQUARELA DO BRASIL
Out of print for many years, Dionne Warwick's two '90s concept albums for Arista Records, much in demand by her audience worldwide!

* Global music legend DIONNE WARWICK had been a hitmaker at Arista Records for over a decade when label head Clive Davis suggested she record an entire album of songs from the timeless catalogue of Cole Porter, considered one of the 20th century’s most prolific and much-loved composers.

* Davis and Warwick agreed that producer/arranger Arif Mardin (best known for his superb work with Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan, Bette Midler, the Average White Band and many others) would provide the perfect production for the 1990 concept album.

* With Dionne’s distinctive vocals at the fore, the album includes many of Porter’s classics such as “Night And Day” (a song Dionne heard when growing up in New Jersey thanks to her father, a big fan of the composer’s work), “You’re The Top,” “It’s All Right With Me” and “Anything Goes.” The jazz version of “Night And Day” features Grover Washington Jr. and Stanley Jordan.

* By 1994, Dionne had made Brazil her second home following a longtime love affair with the country, its people and its music that began in the ‘60s and in tribute, she recorded AQUARELA DO BRASIL (“Watercolours Of Brazil”).

* Dionne worked with producer Teo Lima and surrounded herself with the some of the best musicians in Brazil including Dori Caymmi and Oscar Castro-Neves, recording compositions by Antonio Carlos Jobim among others. The rhythm tracks and vocals were cut in Rio, lending a completely authentic feel to the album, tracks from which are always included in Warwick’s live shows the world over.

* Notes by Soul Music.com founder David Nathan include 2010 quotes from Dionne Warwick herself, who considers these among her finest works, and Kirk Bonin, Soul Music.com contributor and former Arista Records executive

* Both albums have been out of print for many years and are constantly requested at Warwick’s concerts worldwide.

One classic live album by Isaac Hayes & Dionne Warwick:

A MAN & A WOMAN
• SoulMusic Records is proud to reissue this 1977 live album by Isaac Hayes & Dionne Warwick, A MAN & A WOMAN.

• Both producer-songwriter-turned-recording artist-performer Isaac Hayes and international hitmaker Dionne Warwick had already established themselves as musical icons by the time Hayes’ management team suggested the two tour together in the summer of 1977. It was a logical pairing in particular because Hayes had enjoyed his first experience of success as an outfront chartmaker with his unforgettable version of Warwick’s classic 1964 hit, “Walk On By” that was featured on his “Hot Buttered Soul” breakthough album in 1969.

• Working together with their respective touring bands and background vocalists, the spectacular show focused on obvious hits from the catalogues of each performer including Dionne’s original “I Say A Little Prayer” combined with Isaac’s memorable reading of the Glen Campbell hit, “By The Time I Get To Phoenix.”

• In addition to tracks associated with each of the performers - such as “Then Came You” (Dionne’s 1974 chart-topping duet with The Spinners) and Isaac’s 1975 hits, “Chocolate Chip” and “Come Live With Me” - the pair created some great combinations of hits of the day including a fourteen-minute-plus whirlwind medley of seven songs; and a soulful combo of “Feelings” and “My Eyes Adored You.”

• Recorded at the end of the tour in Atlanta at The Fabulous Fox Theater, A MAN & A WOMAN is making its first appearance on CD and has long been in demand by fans of both artists. Notes by SoulMusic.com founder David Nathan include 2012 quotes from Dionne Warwick.
